Planning to trek to Ghorepani Poon Hill and unsure which season to choose? Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November) are considered ideal seasons for trekking and travel in Nepal.

The Spring Season is the best season for trekking in the Annapurna region. This season offers perfect temperatures for long days of walking. Days are hotter and nights are cooler. Trekking trails are dry, and visibility is excellent.

The hills appear mixed in colour because rhododendrons and other wildflowers are in bloom. The colorful environment and clean and crisp surroundings make the perfect season for trekking in the Annapurna region.

Autumn is the busiest season for trekking in the Annapurna region. This season offers stable weather conditions with clear skies and moderate temperatures. The temperature during the daytime is warm, and nights are cooler as you gain altitude.

The clear skies during this season provide stunning views of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machapuchare peaks. Autumn is the peak trekking season, attracting many trekkers and creating a vibrant social atmosphere along the trails and in teahouses.

The winter season is less popular due to cold temperatures. Most high-altitude trekking paths are covered in snow, making them difficult to traverse. Many teahouses may be closed, and conditions can be challenging, especially at higher elevations.

The monsoon season is characterized by heavy rainfall, making trekking difficult and potentially dangerous due to slippery trails and landslides. It is generally not recommended for trekking.

Eating healthy food and sleeping in a comfortable bed are essential when trekking in the Ghorepani Poon Hill area. When you are in Kathmandu and Pokhara, you'll stay in a private room with an attached bathroom, a hot shower, internet, and electricity. There are a variety of food options available, including authentic Nepali and international cuisines.

As you trek in the Annapurna region trail, you’ll be staying in a local teahouse, which offers basic yet comfortable food and accommodation. You’ll be sleeping in a small bedroom with a bed, mattress, blanket, and pillow. The room is small but warm. There are no private bathrooms, hot showers, or laundry facilities. Bathrooms are shared and squat-based. During peak seasons like autumn and spring, you may need to share a bedroom with fellow trekkers.

The food options are limited as altitude increases. They provide very basic yet comforting food, rich in carbs and nutrients. Most teahouses offer Tibetan Bread, hot tea/coffee, soup, chapati, curry, and other items. For lunch and dinner, dal bhat is provided. A full plate of rice, lentils, vegetables, pickle, and salad—full of nutrients and carb food that gives full energy while walking on the trail. Other food options include noodles, chow mein, momos, pasta, and other items.

You’ll need 2 types of permits while trekking in the Annapurna Region.

  • Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS)
  • Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is considered a moderate trek. The trekking hours are short and easy, very suitable for families and beginners. Our expert team carefully crafted the itinerary to allow trekkers to enjoy nature without long, strenuous days of walking.

The trek's maximum elevation is 3,210 meters, at the viewpoint Poon Hill. There is a very low chance of altitude sickness, so trekkers don't need to stress about the trek. The terrain features a mix of gentle slopes and steeper sections, and trekking days are typically 4 to 6 hours.
